Publication Timeline. Peden has created a sparkling, irreverent Catalina, Mastretta's first-person protagonist who narrates her coming of age through a marriage to a retired general much older than herself. No background information. Each of the stories in this volume reveals a different woman, yet they are all linked by a single thread: the revelation that women share an unnamed force, whether it comes in the form of iron resolve, flaming passion, or simply the knowing and mystical ways to nurture a soul.

Award-winning Mexican author Angeles Mastretta acknowledged Saturday in an interview with EFE that she has come to see things differently with the inexorable passage of time, one of the themes of her latest work "El viento de las horas" Wind of the Hours , which has just been released in Spain after hitting bookshelves in Mexico. For example, the fact you don't care that much about what people might say and you're less concerned about questions like 'What's going to happen to me?
The author also recalled how active and ambitious she was in her younger years, looking back with a smile on "what I was capable of doing in a single day when I was Personal memories are now one of the main engines of her writing, evidenced by her work "La emocion de las cosas" The Thrill of Things , which she describes as a "complement" to "El viento de las horas.
Her renewed interest in her past, which was also seen in several of her previous works, such as "Puerto libre" Free Port , "El mundo iluminado" The Illuminated World and "El cielo de los leones" Lion Sky , stems from the death of her mother a decade ago, a loss she says was traumatic and left her "helpless.
And I couldn't write fiction. It's still a challenge to write fiction. I began writing down my memories, in disorderly fashion, like loose ends or bottles thrown out to sea," she said of her current creative process. Reflecting on her career, Mastretta said she was fortunate to have been at the tail end of the Latin American boom spearheaded by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Mario Vargas Llosa and company.
