Those were trying times for Rome. Nero, the last of the Julio-Claudian Caesars and a big spender with a reputedly homicidal temper, was on the throne. Stories abound of how he attempted to poison his mother, kicked one of his wives to death, and personally ordered the upside-down crucifixion of St. Lies and half-truths, most of those tales, but stuff like that sticks. While Rome simmered, Palestine cooked.

Christianity was a sophisticated government propaganda exercise used to pacify the subjects of a the Roman Empire, claims scholar. A controversial American biblical scholar is set to make his first appearance in London next week to present a discovery that he claims proves the story of Jesus Christ was invented as a system of mind control to enslave the poor.

Joseph Atwill, who is the author of a book entitled 'Caesar's Messiah: The Roman Conspiracy to Invent Jesus' , asserts that Christianity did not begin as a religion, but was actually a sophisticated government propaganda exercise used to pacify the subjects of the Roman Empire. At the 'Covert Messiah' conference, to be held at the Conway Hall in Holborn a week on Saturday, Mr Atwill will present his theory that the New Testament was written by first-century Roman aristocrats and that they entirely fabricated the story of Jesus Christ.

Outlining his ideas in a blog posting on his website Mr Atwill writes: "Christianity may be considered a religion, but it was actually developed and used as a system of mind control to produce slaves that believed God decreed their slavery. Mr Atwill says that acts of insurrection by Jewish sects, who were awaiting the arrival of a so-called 'warrior Messiah' in Palestine, were a perpetual problem for the Roman Empire and that after the Empire had exhausted all traditional means of dealing with the problem they resorted to psychological warfare.

Mr Atwill continues: "Although Christianity can be a comfort to some, it can also be very damaging and repressive, an insidious form of mind control that has led to blind acceptance of serfdom, poverty, and war throughout history. To this day, especially in the United States, it is used to create support for war in the Middle East. Atwill says he made his discovery when while studying the New Testament alongside the 'War of the Jews' by Josephus - the only surviving first-person historical account of first-century Judea.

Richard Dawkins, the English evolutionary biologist and author, well known for his anti-religion views, yesterday tweeted a link to the press release advertising the event in London. However, he later tweeted: "RT doesn't imply endorsement.

I'm not qualified to judge Atwill's thesis. Just thought it might be worth a look. These theories commonly include the suggestion that secret societies, mystery schools and other religions used the fictional story of Christ to unify the Roman Empire under one state religion.

Caesar’s Messiah: Rome Invented Jesus, New Doc Claims

By James M. For this reason, we feel a brief critique is in order. Their motive? Atwill argues that the Romans invented Jesus to pacify the Jewish people, having them believe in a suffering messiah, rather than a conquering one. Even radical atheistic skeptics are intensely critical of Atwill.

A Critique of Joseph Atwill’s “Caesar’s Messiah”

During the interview Atwill offers a different explanation for the origins of the gospels:. And that is that the Bible was written in a way to point towards Titus as being the Messiah. And the motivation for that obviously would be to get people to believe that the new king is the religious king. The Roman Caesars, this was era of the Imperial cult. And the Caesar claimed to be a living God. There were t emples built to worship him as a God.

Caesar's Messiah: The Roman Conspiracy to Invent Jesus

But of all the attempts to uncover the origins of christianity - this book presents one of the most plausible explanations that I'm aware of. Probably a minority of people think as I do that Jesus of the New Testament is a mythological character - NOT an actual historical figure. And probably the majority within that minority beli. And probably the majority within that minority believe that the myth was originally created by Jews in opposition to Roman rule. THIS book represents a minority within the minority as it presents the idea that the jesus myth was created by a group of Roman rulers as a false rallying point for messianic Jews in order to pacify and subdue their resistance to Roman rule. So it's expected that this book would not be well received, not just by christian apologetics, but by many non-believers as well since it challenges to the core what the vast majority of people believe about the christianity.

I have purchased the rights to my work Caesar's Messiah from the publisher and have printed 1, copies of a second edition. This edition contains two discoveries not in the first. The first is the confession of the Flavians that they invented Christianity. The second shows that a sequence in the Gospel of Luke is a virtually line by line symbolic representation of a section of Josephus. I refer to this discovery as the Flavian Signature in Luke, and believe it puts the question of who wrote the Gospels to rest. Every copy is autographed.
