How did you hear about us? The plant has been under construction in north-western France since Le Maire's orders came on Friday, barely a fortnight after the French Nuclear Safety Agency, ASN, ordered EDF, the constructor of the plant, to repair at least eight key welded joints that had not been done in accordance with safety regulations. Proposed nearly two decades ago, the EPR was positioned as a state-of-the-art nuclear power technology and Areva, the then nuclear power company of France, began construction of the first project using EPRs in Flamanville in

Don't have an account? Project Type : Nuclear power plant.
Location : Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, India. Capacity : 9,MW. Jaitapur nuclear plant development history In , Jaitapur was recommended to be one of the potential sites for nuclear power development in India. Jaitapur site was approved for first two reactor units by the Government of India in October A civil nuclear co-operation bilateral agreement was signed between India and France in September Jaitapur nuclear power plant make-up Proposed to be built on ha of barren land on the west coast of Arabian sea, the Jaitapur nuclear power plant will comprise six European pressurised reactors EPRs.
The reactor building will comprise a cylindrical reinforced outer shield building and a cylindrical post-tensioned concrete inner containment building with 6mm-thick steel liner enclosing the reactor pressure vessel RPV. The RPV contains the reactor core with fuel assemblies. The reactor coolant system for each generating unit will be based on conventional four-loop design with each loop constituting a steam generator, a pump and the associated pipes, connected to the pressure vessel. The power station will use sea water for cooling and steam generation.
Other facilities at the plant will include spent fuel storage facility, sea water treatment facilities and other auxiliary facilities including fire protection system, steam generator blowdown system and waste processing facilities. European pressurised reactors European pressurised reactors EPRs are third-generation pressurised water reactors with advanced safety features. EPR is designed to generate up to 1,MW of electricity over its 60 years of operational life. PGCIL will be responsible for the construction of transmission lines from the power station.
Key players involved with Jaitapur nuclear power project According to the industrial framework agreement for the project signed between NPCIL and EDF in March , EDF will supply the EPR technology and be responsible for all engineering and procurement works for the first two reactor units of the Jaitapur nuclear power plant.
The first agreement was signed with Assystem, Egis, Reliance and Bouygues to create an engineering platform for studies related to the project. GE will design the conventional island on each of the six reactor units and supply major components including steam turbines, power generators, condensers, moisture separator-reheater system, auxiliary systems and power evacuation systems, as part of the strategic co-operation agreement signed with EDF in June
New technology to delay Jaitapur Nuclear Power Plant, once again

Jaitapur Nuclear Power Plant
The JNPP is the first of several enormous nuclear projects lined up as part of India's ambitious plan to take a massive step forward in nuclear power production, going from 4, MW in the year of the JNPP's proposal to 63, MW by EDF will also provide the necessary input data. The project has been met with uproar from locals and environmentalists. The controversy has centered on safety and sustainability. At the time of the project's announcement in , Jaitapur had experienced 92 quakes in the preceding two decades.
Question mark on fate of Jaitapur N-power plant as France orders technology audit
India and France are Strategic Partners since and share a comprehensive, dynamic and multi-faceted relationship. From France, the prime minister will proceed for bilateral visits to the UAE and Bahrain, and will return to the French city of Biarritz on August 25 to attend the G7 Summit where India has been invited as a partner country. In March, India and France inked an an agreement to expedite the Jaitapur nuclear power plant project, with the aim of commencing work at the site by year-end. The technology is yet to be proven despite being under works for over a decade. The project is to come up in Ratnagiri district where French firm Areva will set up six nuclear reactors with a total power generation capacity of about 10, MW. The combative stand taken by the Madban, Jaitapur, Mithgavane Panchkroshi Samiti is likely to deepen further the wedge created by the state government's move.
