The book includes research and discussions surrounding gender in the areas of psychology, sociology, anthropology, medicine, and public health. It reviews the research from multiple perspectives, but emphasizes the implications of social roles, status, and gender-related traits, particularly for relationships and health-areas that are central to students' lives and that have a great impact on their day-to-day functioning.

Not much new information and not inclusive either. Would not purchase or rent if it wasn't necessary for a class. The eBook edition is awful! It is poorly edited and formatted. It is the worst eTextook I have ever used.

I hope the hard copy is better! There are no built in flash cards. There is no section at the bottom of the screen where you can see where you are in a chapter and advance ahead that way. This eBook is like someone just typed a PDF version of the book and provided zero interactive or study features common to digital textbooks.

I am sorry I purchased it. It considers the theoretical explanations surrounding the psychology of gender while still successfully evaluating the extant empirical literature. Helgeson has done an excellent job of updating this edition. She is also careful to acknowledge the intersection of gender with factors like age, race, and sexual orientation. The "do gender" exercises in the book also make for excellent small group projects for students.

This text is very well organized. Subjects are clearly written and well supported. Major points are repeated and reinforced in a separate section and important terms are listed together at the end of every chapter.

I depended on this intelligent redundancy that helped me retain the wealth of information contained therein. My daughter rented this for her class. Book was a little beat-up and had markings inside but it worked out great and we had no trouble returning it to Amazon when rental period was over.
