Care instructions must appear on locations that the label can be seen or easily found at point of sale. If items are sold in package, and the care label is not visible, the care information must also appear on the outside of the package or on a hang tag.

A permanent label must include appropriate and adequate instructions for the care of the product, including addressing: - both cleaning and maintenance of articles; - phrases of a general nature and phrases indicating that a treatment is prohibited or that special care is to be taken; - vulnerable components, such as trims, unless their removal is advised; and - other phrases, provided that such phrases accurately describe the required care procedure.

Such phrases may be included on a swing ticket, a pamphlet, or on a package The permanent label must be accessible for examination by a prospective consumer or, where this is not possible, on the package or on a removable label or ticket attached to the article, or on a pamphlet accompanying the article. The wording of the label must be in English, clearly legible, and of medium width lettering, of which no individual letter is less than 1. These requirements apply to apparel, excepting hosiery.

Required information must appear in a conspicuous place that shall not be covered or obscured by any subsequent attachments or arrangements and must be as indelible and permanent as the nature of the products will permit. All disclosures should appear in all advertising of leather or faux leather products, irrespective of the media used, whenever statements, representations, or depictions appear in such advertising which, absent such disclosures, serve to create a false impression that the products, or parts thereof, are of a certain kind of composition.
