I was playing a lot of poker back then so I picked it up. But still it was a pretty solid reference. It had one of the more intuitive explanations ive seen for how to estimate pot odds on the fly. And there is a really good section that helps you th I found this book in someone's crap they were throwing out in Ithaca, NY when I was a senior in college. And there is a really good section that helps you think about the hands that are worth seeing the flop on if you arent one of the blinds based on the style of play, your position to the button, etc.
I still read that section before I head down for a weekend in Altantic City. NOTE: This book is not very helpful if you play a lot of no limit. Really best for internet or limit hold em. Especially low limit. Mar 23, Michael rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: Any aspiring poker player. Shelves: poker. This was one of the first books I read on poker, and what's great about this book is that there are hand examples for you to choose the best play followed by the actual play made and the outcome.
It is geared towards limit play, but the concepts and strategies can be easily adapted to no limit play by the astute player. However, if you wanna play limit hold'em, then this is the book for you. The starting hand and odd charts alone are worth the price of the book. Internet Texas Holdem : Winning Strategies from an Internet Pro
This one is written by internet poker professional Matthew Hilger and shares his observations over thousands of hands played out online. In that area it is actually quite detailed and new players will solidify their game by reading and rereading many of the sections. One of the positives of this book is how Hilger lays out the chapters and important strategy concepts. Unfortunately, the section for internet play is relegated to a few obvious and somewhat unreliable tells in the back of the book. However, one of the best parts of the book is the starting hand selection table , which is an excellent resource for new players. I was excited when this book first came out.
